West Liberty University (WLU) has been celebrating their annual homecoming this past week. Serenades took place on Tuesday, Sept. 19 in College hall at 9 p.m. This event let’s homecoming court participants showcase their dance moves in front of the student body. The theme for this year’s event was decades and it ranged from the 1970’s to the 2010’s.
To begin with, the first group that performed represented the 2010’s. This decade resonated with the crowd because most of the audience grew up during this time period. It doesn’t mean that the crowd wasn’t electric for every other performance, there wasn’t an open seat in College Hall. From the performances, to the hosts, the event was a success.
When asked about the serenades, co-host Brooke Anderson, stated “The show was an amazing experience and a great time”.
After the show, we were able to speak with Homecoming queen nominee, Emily Rudy. When asked about what makes serenades so special, Rudy explained how special this year’s event was to her. Additionally, Rudy talked about how thankful she was for how engaged her friends were with the whole experience. She was grateful for the amount of time and effort that people put into making this event so special for her.
Also, she wanted to give some advice to future participants. Some of the advice she gave included not to wait to get a sponsor, being proactive and to participate with other businesses. Lastly, Rudy wanted future participants to know that they shouldn’t be afraid to be included. This event is something that you will remember for the rest of your life. Regardless if you win or lose, the experience will mean so much more to you.
Serenades were a huge success for WLU. Not only were the dances creative, they made the audience smile. Finally, the events during this week lead up to the Homecoming game on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. at West Family stadium against UNC Pembroke.
