The West Liberty University (WLU) Hilltop Players kicked off the 2023-2024 season and put on the production of Measure of Measure written by Williams Shakespeare. It was performed on Oct. 20 as well as 21 at 7:30 p.m., and a last showing of it Oct. 22 at 3:00 p.m.
The play contains a young man, Claudio, gets the girl he intends to marry, Juliet, who becomes pregnant. Angelo has just been reinstated under a new law, Claudio is arrested and sentenced to death. Angelo revives other harsh laws and threatens to get rid of all brothels. Meanwhile, the Duke returns to the city under a new name and disguise. Lucio, Froth and others are shocked to hear of Claudio’s fate and agree that Lucio should visit Claudio’s sister, Isabella, in her convent. They persuade her to leave the convent.
Measure for Measure had 14 cast members and was directed by Micheal Aulick, the director of WLU theatre. The cast goes as follows, Roman Hicks as Angelo, Len Batson as Duke, Aiden Kosol as Pompey, Eva Tennat as Provost, Elijah Haliki as Banradine, Asa Krinov as Froth and Abhorson, Mason Stoll as Friar Peter and Elbow, Daisy Deaton as Isabella, Isabella Constantini as Escalus, Ethan Oliver Marks as Lucio, Cassandra Hackbart as Mistress Overdone, Rowland Dodd as Messenger, Guard and Female Swing, Traelyn Alton as Mariana, Benjamin Mounsey as Claudio, and lastly of the cast members, Joy Deaton as Juliette and the Nun. Additionally, the stage manager, Jordan Derring and assistant stage manager, Klisty Snider.
With this only being the kick off to the 2023-2024 Hilltop Player’s season, there are more exciting performances to come.
