This past month, the American Cornhole League OPEN 11 took place at the Highlands Sports Complex in Triadelphia, West Virginia. The ACL OPEN is a series of cornhole tournaments run by the American Cornhole League.
There are 15 open tournaments for competitors from around the country to participate in for a shot to qualify for the ACL World Championship. The ACL tournaments are very rewarding, and at the OPEN 11, there was over $20,000 given out in prize money. As with all other ACL tournaments, the tournament was broadcasted live on ESPN+.
ACL #11 ran from Friday, March 8th to Sunday, March 10th. The competition included a high school division, a college division, professional singles, doubles, and professional women’s singles and doubles.
The Highlands Sports Complex has hosted over 10 of these tournaments throughout the past few years, and they plan on hosting two more this summer. The ACL OPEN #15 will be hosted in July and will have even more competition and a larger amount of prize money. Sign-ups are open now for cornhole players looking to show off their skills.
The past tournament had over 15 winners, but the grand prize went to ACL Singles Champion Devon Harbaugh. Devon is a professional ACL player who travels around the country participating in tournaments and using his bag-throwing skills to make a living. He is currently ranked 7th in singles globally and is one of the best players in the U.S. cornhole scene.
With over a 75% win rate, Devon is lethal with his skills and has made multiple appearances at our local sports complex, dominating the competition. He plans on making his return in July to put up another fight in the singles division, but does not plan on entering in the upcoming doubles shootouts.
The ACL is gaining popularity and is on the rise to become a very prominent sports league. The Wheeling community loves having this competition in the area and is very excited to see what the future holds. Multiple local businesses open up beer, food, and merchandise tents in anticipation of the giant crowd this event brings.
