WEST LIBERTY- The Countdown to Summer event was held on Wednesday, April 17th from 5pm to 7pm. It was originally supposed to be held on the Quad, but it was moved into the Bear’s Den due to weather conditions.
The event was a collaboration between WLU Housing & Residence Life, Student Life, and Aladdin Dining Services. It had sweet treats like snow cones and cotton candy, as well as activities like caricature drawings, MarioKart, and a giveaway for the students to participate in. However, due to the weather, sandcastle building was postponed until further notice.
Many students like Eden Williams were hungry for the delicious food that was served, such as hamburgers and grilled chicken. He said his favorite summertime food is hot wings.
Emily Anderson and Logan Riggenbach are both seniors ready to graduate this spring. They attended this event after the Graduation Fair.
Riggenbach has been to multiple events held in the Bear’s Den. In fact, she said that her favorite memory from West Liberty University was “winning the Harry Potter game from the cafeteria’s raffle.”
Resident Assistant Audrie Shreve says that all of the Resident Assistants were there as backup to make sure things went smoothly. She hopes that this event was a good stress reliever for the students here on campus. Shreve said, “I hope that people went in there yesterday and felt like they were at the river.”
Shreve was disappointed that they had to change the venue, but she understands that it was all because of the rain. “It was something that we couldn’t really change, and I was sad I couldn’t sit in the sun,” said Shreve.
There were students coming to the Bear’s Den left and right for this event, and it had a great turnout.
