WEST LIBERTY, WV – Threshold held their first screen printing event this Monday, October 21. The event was held in Room 204 in the Fine Arts Building from 4-6 p.m..
The Threshold staff, along with Dr. Martyna Matusiak, Associate Professor of Art, set up screen prints of past Threshold issues art pieces “Desperation” by Jamie Daughtery and “Headcase” by Kaylee Savage, as well as the Threshold logo. There were 50 free tote bags for people to select and screen print a design of their choice.
Students and faculty also had the choice of bringing their own items to spice up with a Threshold logo if they choose.
“The idea behind the screen printing event was to raise awareness of Threshold and launch our call for submissions for the 2025 edition,” said Dr. Steve Criniti, Professor of English and Semester advisor for Threshold. “I hope we were able to build a little buzz around the journal and that those good vibes translate into more people interested in submitting to and reading the journal.”
Over the course of two hours, the event had 35 students and faculty stop by and make a tote bag, leaving the staff with only seven bags left after the event. The staff also handed out flyers asking for submissions for their upcoming 2024-2025 issue, along with showcasing past issues of the book.
“Threshold is our newly redesigned, student-run journal of creative writing and the arts. We are currently working on our 4th issue post-redesign,” said Criniti. “Students can submit their poetry, stories, photography, artwork, et cetera for consideration for inclusion in this 4th edition.”
The Threshold 2024-2025 issue submission deadline is January 17th, 2025, where students can submit:
Fiction: up to 2 pieces 4000 words or fewer
Creative Nonfiction: up to 2 pieces 4000 words or fewer
Poetry: up to four poems (5 total pages)
Artwork: up to four pieces
“Obviously, people should look forward to the launch of the 4th issue of the journal in Spring 2025,” said Criniti. “But in the more immediate future, we are working on a pre-submission workshop to help potential submitters feel a bit more confident in submitting their work. Stay tune for more details on that event to come!”
