WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. – West Liberty University’s officials have planned to prepare the campus grounds for the freezing weather ahead.
Anthony Salatino, WLU’s Safety Director, was able to give us an insight into Joe Mills’ plans for the future of West Liberty’s roads, building safety, and as well as sidewalks. The biggest component of success mentioned is the ability to check the forecast for snow. Once they get their forecast, Mills’ crew heads out to salt the roads at night. On top of that, they make sure they hit all the main walking paths, stairs, ADA ramps, and crosswalks. No timeline has been added to their plan yet because it is based on the forecast.
Salatino adds that when the snow season hits, all workers no matter their trade, focus on shoveling the snow out of the way. Workers and Joe Mills are always on call to make sure things go smoothly if there happens to be a surprise storm.
For the salting, the workers will drive through the roads with a vehicle equipped with an automatic salt spreader to avoid manual labor and make the job more efficient. Manual labor is added onto their plate when it comes to keeping the building entrances and exits clear from snow. For now, there is a bucket of salt near every door to help keep the ways clear when the snowy season makes its way to WLU soon.
