WEST LIBERTY, W. Va.– The West Liberty Men’s Wrestling Team played host to the 2025 MEC Championships on February 1st, 2025. This marked the sixth year in a row that the Hilltoppers have hosted the tournament in the ASRC. West Liberty entered the tournament with a 7-4 overall record in dual matches, including a perfect 2-0 in conference matches.
Leading the charge for the Hilltoppers would be True Freshman and No. 8 nationally Logan Davis and two-time defending National Champion Ty McGeary. Davis and McGeary, along with 4 more nationally-ranked wrestlers, were looking to reclaim the MEC title after the Hilltoppers won three in a row from 2021-2023 and finished second in 2024.
The tournament kicked off with a tech fall victory by 141 pound wrestler Khyvon Grace. The Hilltoppers kept the momentum rolling, going undefeated in the first round of the tournament with some wrestlers receiving a bye into the next round. Once the next round began, 5 Hilltoppers won their matches punching their ticket to the finals.

The Hilltoppers went 1-4 in their finals matches, with Ty McGeary being the long winner. The four runner ups include Logan Davis, Carter Winegardner, Devon Bell, and Parker Bentley. With the win, McGeary became a four-time MEC Champion and is the only wrestler in MEC history to win four consecutive championships. McGeary also claimed his fourth First-Team All MEC Honors and earned MEC Wrestler of the Week.
The Hilltoppers earned second place as a team for the second year in a row. West Liberty will be looking to keep up the momentum as the Super Region 3 Championships and the D2 National Championships are just around the corner.
