WEST LIBERTY, WV – Hello, my name is Madeline Cecil, and I am excited to bring back our monthly “Hilltop Movie Reviews!”
I have decided to start off this back-to-school season with movie classics set in high school. Let’s get started!
The Breakfast Club (1985)
3/5 stars
This classic movie follows five very different students during a day of detention. At the beginning of the movie, you would never expect these students to be civil towards each other. Though, that would be far from the truth. This movie filled with unlikely bonds will leave you feeling slightly suspicious, but ultimately hopeful. They really did an injustice to Allison at the end though.
Dead Poets Society (1989)
5/5 stars
Who would’ve thought creativity was something to go to military school over? Mr. Perry surely thinks so, and that makes for a devastating story. “Dead Poets Society” is a movie that follows a group of boys in a very strict boarding school, with their only escape from their own expectations being their expressive English teacher. His influence grabs hold of his students, and it begins to diverge from their familial expectations.
Mean Girls (2004)
3/5 stars
This may not be high school, but most of us have been through situations like these. Maybe not by getting hit by a bus or being told to only wear pink on Wednesdays, but we have seen the Regina George type (or been her). Many of us that have been through high school know what it’s like to try to fit in, and maybe with the wrong crowd. Watching this movie will make you glad that you aren’t in high school, and will never be again.
