WEST LIBERTY –With the school year at West Liberty just starting, many students may
find themselves asking the question “what can I do other than eat Chilaca and doomscroll after
class?” Well, the answer is: join a club.
West Liberty boasts many different clubs around campus including Poetry Club, Biology Club, and Disability Awareness Club. The club we will be unraveling right now is Crochet Club!

The Crochet Club at West Liberty is focused on the communal aspect of crochet, as well as the actual development of individual crochet projects that members of the club work on. This weaving together of community and bonding over a common hobby brings members together and is a great reason to join the club!
I spoke with the new club president Kayley Ramirez about more of what makes crochet and the club so appealing.
“Crochet is very varied. It can be used to destress or just help you feel productive for
the day, and it’s becoming more popular,” Ramirez said. “The Center for Arts and Education has yarn, and the actual club provides hooks, safety eyes, needles, and blocking boards.”
I also asked Ramirez what made the Crochet Club different from other clubs on campus.s
“Our club is diverse, and people of all different majors can come together and talk about the work it takes to complete a project,” Ramirez said.
The Crochet Club is also planning on doing a workshop with the Sustainability Club that allows students to use recycled materials to crochet with instead of yarn.
The number of members in the club is a little inconsistent, but typically around 15 crocheters attend regularly. You can find the Crochet Club at the Center for Arts and Education on Tuesdays from 4-6 PM.
