Daddy’s Home is a new Paramount Pictures comedy film directed by Sean Anders. This film is about radio executive Brad Whitaker (played by Will Ferrell) who finds himself fighting the affections of his step-children when his wife’s ex-husband Dusty Mayron (played by Mark Wahlberg) returns.
The pairing of Ferrell and Wahlberg in this film is spot-on with natural chemistry. The laughs and gags are solid to a degree in some spots, but Daddy’s Home ultimately flops with its loose script and overall simple humor. Though its third act is relatively satisfying, the rest of the film relatively doesn’t carry its weight of the load. Linda Cardenelli, who plays Will Ferrell’s wife in the film, seemed like a useless character and could have been used better. This could have been a great opportunity to show off her acting experience.
Despite some of the downsides of this movie, Ferrell, Wahlberg, and Cardenelli did an amazing job telling the story. This movie started off funny and ended with a short surprising cameo by WWE superstar John Cena. There were some dull and corny jokes throughout, but it was still a great movie.
Rotten Tomatoes gives this movie an average rating of 3.5 out of 10 and Internet Movie Database gives this movie a 6 out of 10, but I am kind enough to give this movie a 7 out of 10. If you are looking for a film that is just about guaranteed to make you feel good, I would advise that you drop by a theater to see Daddy’s Home.
