Midterms are a stressful time for every college student, and the aftermath can be either reassuring or discouraging. However, midterms grades are only there to inform students of how well they are doing, and they have no immediate impact on students’ GPA or transcripts. West Liberty students still have plenty of time and access to various resources that can help improve their grades before finals.
Because West Liberty University is a smaller school, students have the ability to have one-on-one conversations with their professors and advisors. This opportunity is something students at a lot of larger schools don’t have, and West Liberty students will find that it is advantageous to discuss course work with their professors.
Dr. Dominique Hoche, an English professor, advises that students should meet with their professors. “Some students try to do it on their own, and sometimes they forget that it is a vital part of our job to guide and help them,” Hoche said.
Some professors have open office hours, and others require that you make an appointment beforehand. This information, along with your professor’s office hours, are usually located in the course syllabus or on Sakai.
West Liberty also offers various services at the Learning and Student Development Center in 147 Main Hall that can help students get on the right track. The Peer Tutoring program helps students study course content at a pace and in a style that is most beneficial to them.
Learning and Student Development Center lab assistant, Star Roe said, “students should come to the learning and development center for free tutoring so they can get help with their school work and do better on tests.”
The Learning and Development Center also offers group study programs that students can benefit from.
Math and writing labs meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Dental Hygiene labs and French labs meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
