West Liberty University will hold its Fall 2016 commencement ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 in the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC).
“One hundred and thirty-eight students are expected to complete graduation requirements during the fall semester,” said vice-president of student services Scott Cook. The complete list of summer and fall 2016 graduates participating in the ceremony is on page 4 of the print edition of The Trumpet.
This year’s commencement speaker is Christina Fisanick Greer, a WLU alumna from 1996. Greer is a writer and one of the three WLU Wall of Honor inductees of 2016. She works as an English professor at California University of Pennsylvania. Greer will talk about overcoming hardships in her speech titled “The Winding Road to Your Future.”
“Christina is inspiring and as a young alumna who is successful in her career, she represents the best about the Hilltop,” said WLU President Dr. Stephen Greiner. “We are grateful that she will share her time and thoughts with our graduates and honored guests.”
Cindi L. Greathouse, a native of Wheeling, W.Va, will be the student commencement speaker.
Following a tradition, students with the highest GPA in their respective colleges will carry a college banner at the beginning of the ceremony. This year’s banner carriers include Rosalie A. Haizlett from the College of Arts & Communication, Emily Sloat from of the College of Sciences, Danielle E. Seckman from the Gary E. West College of Business, Jessica L. Zeigler of the College of Education, Katelyn M. Harris from the College of Liberal Arts and Brandi N. Alderman from the School of Professional Studies.
For friends and family members who are not able to attend the commencement, the ceremony will be televised live on WLU-TV 14 (Channel 14 on Comcast). Every graduate will also receive a copy of the video from the ceremony.
Graduates, friends and family are also invited to a reception with light refreshments, which will take place after the official commencement ceremony in the Ballroom of the Student Union.
Congratulations, and best of luck to the class of 2016!
