The West Liberty University community is ready to welcome over 350 high school students for the 17th annual MADfest this Friday, April 7.
Competition entries were submitted up until March 11, and MADfest director and West Liberty Professor Jim Haizlett is pleased with the number of submissions.
“We have over 500 entries into the contest,” Haizlett said. “There were slightly more high school entries than college entries. I think it was something around 280 from high school and 220 from college.”
Of the various competition categories, photography received the most submissions this year.
“Photography is always very popular, and I think it’s primarily due to how easy it is to take a picture,” Haizlett explained. “There’s a very wide range of quality there because some students will go out and just take a random snapshot, and other ones compose really beautiful pictures, so we have some beautiful photography.”
The other MADfest categories include short film, digital imaging, electronic music, animation, illustration, mixed media, multimedia, graphic design, audio documentary and video documentary.
The competition awards ceremony will take place in College Hall on April 7 after high school students check-in at 8 a.m. WLU students are welcomed to attend.
I should make it clear that college students are definitely invited to come and view the competition, especially if you entered something. The invitation is out there if you’d like to see some good and work and to see who wins; it’ll be a good show.
