As the most frightening day of the year approaches, students will look for fun activities to do this Halloween. Instead of sitting in your dorm room, here are several attractions in the area to fulfill your holiday spirits.
Haunted Halls will return to the hilltop for its fifth consecutive year. However, this year, the event will be hosted in Shotwell Hall. Shotwell is located across the quad from the College Union. The event will take place next Monday and Tuesday from 7:30-10:30 p.m.
Housing and Student Life and the Harry Potter Club have joined forces to make waiting more enjoyable for participants. There will be games, prizes, and free food available to all. Students may bring guests, and admission is free. Make sure to give Housing and Student Life a shout out on your social media pages.
Tomorrow, Friday Oct. 27 and Saturday Oct. 28 are the last dates for Scare at the Fair. Each year, it is hosted at the West Alexander Fairgrounds in Pennsylvania. Proceeds benefit the West Alexander Volunteer Fire Department.
Dr. Roger Seeber, WLU Professor of Biology, has been a key contributor since its opening in 2013. This is also the fifth year anniversary for Scare at the Fair. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for ages 18 or younger and doors open at 7 p.m.
The West Virginia Penitentiary is a popular tourism destination for the Ohio Valley. Known for its paranormal tours, the penitentiary in Moundsville, W. Va. offers so much more during the spooky season, such as the Dungeon of Horrors and Escape Room.
There is also the North Walk available. Participants walk through the oldest part of the penitentiary, which is claimed to have the most paranormal activity. Prices vary depending on the event and day.
Across the Ohio River, there is the nationally recognized Wells Township Haunted House, located in Brillant, Ohio. A guided walkthrough and zombie maze challenge are both included in the admission ticket of $14.
The haunted house will operate tomorrow and Saturday from 7-11 p.m. For those feeling like a tough guy, there will be an exclusive “Lights Outs” tour offered Nov. 3 and 4. Tickets will still be only $14.
There are also other options outside the Ohio Valley. Phantom Fright Nights returns to Kennywood, located in West Mifflin, Pa. Tickets start at $33.99 at the gate, and thrill seekers can enjoy the fun from 6 p.m. to midnight this weekend.
Towards East Liverpool is the Dark View haunted attraction, held in Toronto, Ohio. This is the last weekend for the attraction, and tickets are $18. Attractions include the Goucher Farmhouse, Dark View Cemetery, and the Torture Trail.
With all these scare events going on, there’s no reason to be bored. Check out some of these events, or others, this Halloween season.
