On Wednesday, Nov. 8, the Student Veterans’ Association will be having a flag raising ceremony on the quad at noon in honor of Veterans Day.
Veterans Day is Saturday, Nov. 11, but the ceremony will be held on Wednesday, so it will be able to have the most participants and viewers.
Travis Howe, Student Veterans Representative and President of the Veterans Club, said “What we’re wanting to do is a flag raising ceremony for Veterans Day. Veterans Day is on Nov. 11, which is a Saturday, so what we’re planning on doing is doing it on Nov. 8 around noon, since that is when most people will be available.”
The flag will be lowered on Tuesday night, and then on Wednesday, the veterans will go out and raise the flag.
“This Veterans Day we wanted to do something special not only to recognize Veterans but to also recognize our flag. It is common practice on military installations to raise and lower the flag at the start and end of the day, and it’s truly something amazing to watch,” said Howe. “Everything comes to a pause as the flag is honored on its descent. We live by the flag; it’s what makes us who we are, and this year we want to honor what it stands for in addition to all the brave men and women who fight for it.”
The organization has also sent out invitations to the veterans from the Wheeling Vet Center and the Tri-State Young Marines to attend.
The Student Veterans’ Association hold meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. The Veterans’ Lounge is located on the second floor of the Student Union in room S11.
