Assistant Professor of Spanish Dr. Felipe Rojas is wrapping up his first semester teaching here on the hilltop.
Q: What is your favorite thing about WLU so far?
A: The students have been really nice and welcoming towards me. I like talking to them in and outside of the classroom. The campus is also really nice, but that might change in the wintertime.
Q: What kind of classes do you/ will you offer in the future?
A: Currently, I teach Spanish speaking classes: Spanish 101, 102, 201, and 202. In the future, I am going to be teaching classes on the history of Hispanic, Mexican, and Chicano authors. I think that will be a very interesting class to teach, since it’s nothing like the classes I’ve taught before.
Q: How has it been working here so far?
A: In the beginning, it was rough. Once the students adjusted to my teaching style and I got used to them, however, things got easier and I started liking my job here more.
Q: Any fun facts you’d like to share?
A: I’m a very active person. When I’m not in the classroom, I’m usually at the gym. I love playing volleyball and softball. Back in Chicago, where I have friends I visit, I participate in ultimate frisbee, and I actually have my own team. I was the founder and commissioner of the team. As for academics, I won the Wayne C. Booth Graduate Student Prize for Excellence in Teaching back in 2013, at the University of Chicago.
