We’ve officially made it past midterm, and whether you think the semester is dragging or flying by, it is time to start preparing for not only the end of this semester, but for the future, too. West Liberty University offers many resources to help you finish the semester strong, get ready for next semester and prepare for life after graduation.
Finals week is closer than we realize. If you are looking for some extra help in your classes, the Learning and Student Development Center (LSDC) offers free tutoring. To schedule an appointment for individual tutoring, go to TutorTrac and login using your West Liberty University email without the “@westliberty.edu” for your username and your birthday (formatted as mmddyyyy) for your password.
The LSDC also offers tutor labs. Math lab is held Monday through Thursdays from 4-7 p.m. The science lab is held on Mondays and Thursdays from 5-6 p.m. and Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. There is also a Spanish lab Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m.
If you’re taking the PRAXIS, there is also tutoring available to help you prepare for that. To make an appointment, stop in the LSDC located in Main Hall room 147.
If you’re returning next semester, pre-registration season is here. The schedule for next semester’s classes is now out on WINS. The course catalog and Topper Tracks (accessed through WINS) are good ways to check to see what classes you have left to take and to see if you are on track in your program.
Academic advisers are also helpful to check in with and can give you advice beyond just providing your pin. Blank schedules are available on the university website as well to help you plan out your classes.
Another good resource, especially for those graduating, is the resume and cover letter workshops held in the WLU Writing Center. The resume workshop will be held on March 28 from 12-12:50 p.m. The description says, “The Resume Writing Workshop covers the basic components of a resume and introduces students to principles for enhancing the visual design and content of their resumes.”
The cover letter workshop will be held on April 11 from 12-12:50 p.m. The description for this workshop says, “The Cover Writing Workshop covers the basic components of a cover letter and introduces students to strategies for making their letters more compelling and persuasive.”
Both workshops will be held in the Library Room 309. If you are interested in these workshops, sign up soon because there are only 20 spots available for each. If you have any questions, contact Amanda Tennant at [email protected].
Another useful resource for those graduating is the Career Service available through the LSDC in Main Hall room 140. According to the webpage, “Career Services assists students with all facets of career preparation. All services offered are free to students and alumni. The goal of the Career Services Center is to provide the services and resources to help students choose and prepare for their careers, find employment, and learn skills needed to transition successfully from student to professional.”
Many resources are available for all students, continuing and graduating, at West Liberty University. Don’t be afraid to take advantage of them.
