While it is officially summer, those who live close to campus or are staying at West Liberty over the summer break may be looking for something to do. Here are some activities or events during the month of June you may be interested in attending around Wheeling.
Wheeling Arts and Culture Fest
On Friday, June 15, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., the Wheeling Arts and Culture Fest will return once again to the Wheeling Heritage Port. This festival combines the Wheeling Arts Fest and the YMCA Multicultural Festival. The festival is free to the public and will provide attendees with live music, an Artist Market, walk up arts festivals and more.
Drive-in Movies at Wheeling Park
On Fridays June 15 and 29 at 9 p.m., Wheeling Park will present free Drive-In Movies in the parking lot near the White Palace. If you follow Wheeling Park’s Facebook page, you can participate in the guessing games they hold allowing the public to guess which movie they will be showing for the night. Challenge Wheeling
If you like competitions or races, you might want to check out Challenge Wheeling. This event takes place on Saturday, June 16. Challenge Wheeling combines a scavenger hunt and a race taking place in downtown Wheeling. During the competition, teams will be given a list of clues and starting at 10 p.m. and competitors will have until 1 p.m. to solve the clues and complete the challenges. This event raises money for Youth Services Systems (YSS). For more information or to sign up, visit their website.
Live Music and Entertainment
Every Wednesday starting at 7 p.m., live music will be held at the Wheeling Heritage Port. Waterfront Wednesdays are free to the public. The Summer Concert Series at Oglebay will also provide the public with free live entertainment. The Summer Concert Series will be held on Sundays June 10 and June 24 at 7 p.m. at the Anne Kuchinka Amphitheater. The City of Wheeling also sponsors Toe Tappin’ Tuesdays. This event takes place every Tuesday at either the Wheeling Park Amphitheater or Warwood’s Garden Park.
There are many events and activities in the Wheeling area. Often these events are held at no cost or a low cost, so if you are looking for something to do, try checking some out!
