The Beta Beta Chapter of Kappa Phi, the National Christian Sisterhood, will be holding their annual Pink Party event tonight, Monday, Oct. 22, from 6-8 p.m. in the College Union Ballroom.
This event is a community service event that Kappa Phi does to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness, in particular programs that sponsor free mammograms.
This year, the money raised at the event will be donated to Susan G. Komen’s Walk for the Cure. Kappa Phi has held this event in some form since 2006 when it began as a pledge service project. Since then, it has been recognized by their National Executive Board for its merit and commitment to serving the community in a crucial way.
Service Chair Marisa Scott is very excited for the event and hopes to do well raising money for Susan G. Komen’s. “We will be having raffle baskets, 50/50, snacks, and entertainment. Some examples of baskets are bath and body work, self-care, cooking basket, game night basket, etc. T-shirts honoring Breast Cancer Awareness will be available to be ordered at the event as well,” said Scott.
Other activities at the event will include rock painting and bingo also to help raise money according to sponsor and WLU pastor Debra Dague.
President Larrin Shriver is hopeful for the event. “One of Kappa Phi’s pillars of foundation is service we are so happy and honored to be serving in a way to help bring attention to this cause and to raise money for procedures and checkups for those who cannot afford them,” said Shriver. “But we cannot do it alone, [it] takes so much support! Friends, family and the campus and local community are welcome to join us.”
