West Liberty University’s Gary E. West College of Business hosts its fall Executive Seminar and welcomes Sen. Joe Manchin to the podium on Thursday, Oct. 25. The seminar program invites leaders to campus to share important lessons with business students.
Manchin’s talk will begin at 1:30 p.m. in College Hall and is open to the public. However, this is not a campaign stop and there will be no questions taken from the audience. Only questions submitted by business students prior to the presentation will be addressed.
“The College of Business is pleased to welcome our former governor and current senator to the Executive Seminar. The purpose of the seminar is to teach our students about leadership from leaders and Senator Manchin is going to share with us his philosophy on leadership and management as the former Chief Executive Officer of the state of West Virginia,” said David Wright, who is an associate professor of management at WLU and coordinates the seminar.
U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) was sworn into the United States Senate in 2010 to fill the seat left vacant by the late Senator Robert C. Byrd. Prior to that, he had served six years as governor.
According to his bio, he has always been committed to his philosophy of “retail government” — in other words, connecting with all of his constituents and making service to them his top priority.
Senator Manchin currently serves on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, the Senate Armed Services Committee, the Senate Special Committee on Aging and the Senate Banking Committee.
Born in the small mining town of Farmington, W.Va., he went on to attend West Virginia University on a football scholarship. He has been married for more than four decades to the former Gayle Conelly of Beckley. They have three children: Heather, Joseph IV and Brooke, and are the proud grandparents of Joseph V, Sophie, Kelsey, Madeline, Chloe, Jack, Carly and Vivian.
The College of Business offers students undergraduate degrees in Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Entrepreneurship, Finance, General Business, Health Care Management, Management, Marketing and Sport Management.
It added an online MBA to its degree offerings just a few years ago. For complete information, please call 304-336-8053 or visit westliberty.edu/westbusiness.
