Alexis Montes, the Athletic Advancement Coordinator, is a West Liberty University alumna. She received her bachelor’s in education with a concentration in athletic administration, and went to Marshall University for a master’s degree in sports administration.
Q: What does an Athletic Advancement Coordinator do?
A: As an Athletic Advancement Coordinator at West Liberty, my primary role is serving as an Athletic fundraiser. All fundraising efforts will help provide scholarships, support departmental needs, and fund capital improvements. West Liberty is continuing to grow each year. We are adding new sports, facilities, and the list goes on. It is my mission and my job to ensure student athlete success as we continue to grow.
Q: How does it feel to be back at WLU?
A: It feels amazing to be back at West Liberty. This place is home for me! I spent the best four years of my life here as a student-athlete and the fact that I get to work here is incredible. I always ask myself “How did I get so lucky?” I am proud to say that I am now a “forever” Topper.
Q: What is your favorite thing about your job?
A: My favorite thing about my job is the people that I get to work with. They are not only the same people who helped me grow as a student-athlete but more importantly, they are the people who helped me become the young professional that I am today. It is an honor and a privilege that I get to work with them.
Q: What is the best life skill/lesson you’ve learned from your career?
A: The first is to develop over the course of the year the what will become our strategic plan. After this academic year, I will be largely responsible for putting that together in a single document. That’s one major project I have.
Q: What do you like about WLU?
A: I would have to say the thing that I love most about West Liberty is the sense of pride that everybody possesses. West Liberty is my heart and soul and I can almost guarantee that if you speak with all West Liberty students, staff, faculty members, and alumni they can all agree with me. Here at West Liberty University, we are family.
