WTRF and the Salvation Army are teaming up for their 2nd “Give to Share” event. This is West Liberty University’s first year helping with the event. Until Dec. 5, a toy drive is being held on campus and all donations collected will go towards the “Give to Share” event.
“WTRF is partnering with the Salvation Army for the second year to adopt as many children as possible from the Ohio Valley’s Angel Trees. Last year, they were able to raise over $10,000 and adopt 161 children of all ages from six counties. WTRF employees shopped for all the gifts and delivered them, sorted by child to the Salvation Army for their annual distribution day,” said Director of Student Activities and Title IX Coordinator Kate Billings. “WTRF got in contact with the Office of Housing and Student Life to see if the University would be interested in helping get donations. This year their goal is to adopt 200 children, and we hope to help in that effort!”
If students wish to donate, they can bring a new, unwrapped toy to their dorm Resident Assistant office or the Office of Housing and Student Life for it to be placed in the WLU van that is parked on the quad. The goal is to have the van packed full of donations.
“The event was brought to our attention by a WLU Alum Ali Jamison, who was a member of Chi Omega! She thought it would be awesome to see campus get involved in this event,” said Billings.
The Office of Housing and Student Life is organizing collections inside the residence halls. The dorm with the most donations will get a pizza party. They are also running a contest among Greek Life organizations for a special finals week event for the chapter who has the most donations.
“The Office of Housing and Student Life is looking to make some donations, and we are hoping that faculty and staff want to drop off toys in the collection also,” said Billings.
After the drive is done, all toys will be brought to WTRF for them to sort out and take to the Salvation Army. For more information contact Lauren Herse, General Sales Manager at WTRF, at (304)-230-6215.
