West Liberty University’s (WLU) S.P.I.C.E.S, International club, hosted a Halloween event in the Union Ballroom on Oct., 3o.While the big tickets events may have been the pumpkin carving and karaoke, many other activities were available for students to participate in. Much of the union ballroom was decorated for the spooky season. Orange lights were hung, plastic pumpkin lanterns were set out on the tables, fake candles, witches hats and everyone was dressed in their best costumes.
Besides the main events, multiple of the WLU student ran clubs had gathered in the ballroom and set up tables to give out treats to all of the participants. One stand by the Japanese club featured popular japan horror stories such as the kappa, the slit mouthed woman and the snow women.
A number of students stopped by this stand in particular to hear about the harrowing tales. Most of the other stands simply handed out flyers and candy; these stands belonged to the WLU Biology Club, the Creative Arts Club, and Gaming Club respectively. Collegiate American Choral Directors Association (CACDA) ran karaoke as the main event, as it was held on the stage of the ballroom. In between students singing, halloween music was playing to add to the ambiance.
Many of the students were dressed up for the halloween bash with costumes of various pop culture characters. The more popular and recognizable costumes included Walter White from the T.V. show “Breaking Bad”, the Grim Reaper, Elvis Pressly and both Princess Leia and Han Solo from the “Star Wars” franchise. Additionally, the pumpkin carving itself was done both outside on the union porch and inside the Union Ballroom. All in all, it was a great time for students to gather with their friends and peers to destress from the stress of the fall semester.
