West Liberty’s Housing and Student Life as well as The Office of Student Life hosted the year’s second annual Oktoberfest on Monday, Oct. 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Quad. This year’s event was much bigger than the event that they held last year. Camille Irvin of the Housing and Student life office said that they were very pleased with the turnout that they had for the event.
Irvin said that the event may not always happen in October depending on the event calendar. It will be an event that is held sometime in the fall in future years.
The weather was overcast, and a strong cool breeze was blowing all evening with some late drizzles. Sounds of laughter and chatter filled the quad as many students were in attendance and enjoyed the food. As well, there were many activities for the students to participate in like bobbing for apples and ax throwing. As well, Irvin says that they hope to build on the event a bit more next year.
After enjoying the spread of German-themed foods including; Bratwurst, pretzels, and funnel fries. Many students let out their creative sides as they took to the pumpkin painting tables.
Students Lilli Snider and Leah Loudin said they really enjoyed the event as they spent time painting their pumpkins together. Many students even braved the cold temperatures and enjoyed spending time with their friends as well as faculty.
Student Tyler Schwisow commented on the event as a whole, “It was great! The whole event is super!” The campfire was another popular attraction on the cool evening.
Many students were impressed by the food and had a blast at the event. Whether they were just with their roommate or a friend, it was a fun evening of activities.
