WEST LIBERTY, WV – West Liberty University rolls out updates for buildings around campus and other plans for the school year. Being the oldest university in the state, many issues facing the campus were discussed at the September 17th meeting of the Student Government Association (SGA). President Tim Borchers was present and discussed the goals and initiatives for the 2024-2025 academic year, with a focus on both online and physical concerns on the campus.
Dr. Borchers brought up the construction on Hughes Hall, with issues with the brickwork as well as the updated breezeway. He also spoke about adding two new passenger vans for the campus and updating the fire alarms in Blatnik. These projects were state-funded at about $730,000 total with a separate $11 million for deferred maintenance.
The deferred maintenance projects were used for; new roofing for the ASRC, Krise Hall, The Fine Arts building, and the Maintenance building. Along with a new HVAC for Krise and the Student Union, Curtis and Roger Halls will be getting new boilers at an undetermined date.
The student government moved later on talking about safety concerns over the exit of the front Topper-Village lot, intending to move the dumpster out front and or possibly add a mirror with potential approval of the West Virginia Division of Highways (DOH).
Similar meetings with other guest speakers will be occurring this semester to discuss concerns on campus, October 1st with Andrew Lewis, Student Success Center Director, November 5th: Katie Cooper, VP of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management, and November 15th: Joe Rodella, COO & CIO (Chief Information and Officers). These meetings will occur at the regular Tuesday 9 pm, by-weekly SGA meetings.
