As of this week, West Liberty Idol is in full swing on the hilltop. This event has given students and staff an opportunity to do something fun and different during the month of February. For those of you unaware of West Liberty Idol, it’s very much like the famous television show, American Idol.
Though students do try out and some do not make the final cut, there are no Simon Cowell’s in the audience to worry about. WLU Senior, Camille Bernabei, is heavily involved with West Liberty Idol.
“This is our fourth year of the event and it has grown in popularity every year,” said Bernabei. “This program began in January 2012 and instantly grew into a campus tradition that hosted 250 to 300 students every night.”
If you do not care to take part in the singing aspect of this event, then no worries. Just like American Idol, West Lib Idol needs voters. The office of Housing and Student life are expecting big things this year out of Idol.
“We have a goal to raise $1,500 in cash and prizes for the first place and second place winners, which is our largest prize yet,” said Bernabei.
West Liberty Idol will be held every Wednesday night in February at 7:00 p.m. in the Union Ballroom. If you have any questions about how to get involved, you may contact Camille Bernabei here for more details.
