Ten Things You Need to Do This Summer

By Natasha Muhametzyanova, Contributing Writer

Here it is, the break all of us have been waiting for so long! By now the euphoria of completing another semester is probably over, and you may be starting to get bored. If you happen to stay on campus or live somewhere in the tri-state area, here are ten things you have to experience this summer.

  1. Have you ever heard of Shakespear’s First Folio? It is the collection of 36 plays published in 1623. This summer you have a chance to see one of the most important books in the literary world in the Oglebay Mansion Museum. Oglebay is the only stop of The First Folio Tour in West Virginia. The exhibit is open until June 12.
  2. Summer is time for live music. Did you know that two WLU students play in a local band HitPlay? Stop by Wheeling Waterfront and listen to their performance on June 3.
  3. If you like jazz and don’t mind driving to Pittsburgh, you can enjoy free jazz music on Saturdays from June 11 – August 27 at the Riverview Park.
  4. Are you more of an art person? Join the Gallery Crawls in Pittsburgh on July 8. Bonus — the majority of the events are free!
  5. Get together with friends for a movie night in Wheeling’s riverfront on selected Fridays of June and July. If the Force is with you on June 17, you will get to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
  6. Let’s be classy. Try various wines and cheeses at the wine tasting at Good Mansion Wines (Wheeling) every Friday in June.
  7. Dining experience can also be special in Wheeling. Eat delicious crepes at the famous Later Gator!
  8. How about visiting museums this summer? Carnegie museum organizes its special theme event “After dark” on June 10. Be ready to immerse into the world of Indiana Jones! Only two things to keep in mind: you need to be 21 to enter; entrance is $15 per person.
  9. If you want to have more exotic experiences, then it is time to go to safari. Less than two hours from the Ohio Valley you can see giraffes and rhinos! Reserve a tour in the Wilds, Ohio.
  10. Get an adrenaline rush this summer at Grand Vue Park. Try the night time zip the third Saturday of each month or register for the group events.

While you are trying all these exciting things, don’t forget to read The Trumpet!
