Everybody is singing Christmas tunes and getting festive, but I have a slight problem with that. Everyone needs to relax and take a step back. There’s an important holiday before we get to Christmas. I’m not sure if everybody has forgotten, but that holiday is Thanksgiving.
My social media feed has been full of the Christmas spirit and we’re only two weeks into November! Halloween was over and people jumped straight to Christmas. Hold back on the snowmen, winter crafts and Christmas movies for a bit.
Thanksgiving is only next Thursday, Nov. 24. After that, go right ahead and go Black Friday shopping and get all prepped up for Christmas. Now, however, it is Thanksgiving-time. Don’t skip it!
There are tons of recipes online and different Pinterest crafts one can make to get into the Thanksgiving spirit. Try something new this season alongside your family traditions, and maybe it can become a tradition, too.
Thanksgiving is the holiday to be thankful for friends and family. It is time one can step back and be thankful, even for the little inconveniences in life. Families come together to spend time with one another, and it’s a day to just enjoy being with them.
However, it is also the time to stuff your face with turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, noodles, and whatever else one’s family has prepared for the day. Quite frankly, I’m not allowing everybody to forget the holiday when I can eat however much I want and do not get judged.
It’s a time to eat, make memories with family members one hasn’t seen all year, watch the parade on TV, and bicker whether afterwards the TV stays on the current NFL game or not. Memories are made on Thanksgiving just as much as they are on Christmas, and it shouldn’t be ignored.
In all seriousness, Thanksgiving is time for family. Even when families fight, there’s something magical about the holiday season. Forget about grudges and past fights, because it’s time to be together. You never know what tomorrow will bring, so be thankful and hug your family members while on break.
Everyone gets excited for Christmas, and I get it – it’s the “most wonderful time of the year.” But that does not mean Thanksgiving has to live in Halloween and Christmas’s shadows. Remember: Thanksgiving is important, too. We have a lot to be thankful for.
