Valentine’s Day can be a day of excitement where butterflies are fluttering in your stomach and love is pouring from your heart. You can spend the day with your significant other, give gifts, and remind each other how much the relationship means to you.
GAG. I have a significant other and that still doesn’t sound fun to me.
It’s time to say goodbye to Valentine’s Day and hello to the new concept of “Treat Yo’self.” Whether you have a significant other or would rather stay at home with your cat, you can participate in a day of indulging in your favorite guilty pleasures.
The concept of “Treat Yo’self” is pretty straightforward. Imagine walking down the mall during your break from work and coming across the perfect shade of lipstick at Sephora. It’s the perfect neutral brown and will match your favorite sweater. What’s your next move? Swipe that debit card and Treat Yo’self!
The first step in learning how to “Treat Yo’self” is being okay with spending money on yourself. The next step is to realize that it’s healthy for you. Self-love is important, and sometimes it comes with a price. We only get one life, so why not make it enjoyable?
Now I’m not saying to spend your entire paycheck on the newest gaming console or to buy thirty pairs of new shoes. Obviously, there is a difference between having fun and being responsible. But if we are expected to be financially responsible and healthy, wouldn’t the same go for our spiritual and mental well-being? Treating yourself can boost your overall health.
So instead of dreading Feb. 14, make plans to Treat Yo’self! We all deserve a little reward for our daily efforts. Through the highs and lows, it’s important to be there for yourself, and if that means eating a whole tub of ice cream, then so be it. Treat Yo’self!
