With the departure of co-branded Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, Sodexo has introduced Hilltoppers to a new life filled with Italian dishes. Positive first reactions have settled the verdict on whether the removal of two name-brand corporations was the right decision.
“Slice of Life has actually given a new meaning to pizza,” said Billy Campbell, a senior at WLU. “This place has done what I expected and given me a new slice of life,” pun intended. Slice of Life is here to stay!
The expiring contract between West Liberty University and Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, prompted Sodexo to announce the arrival of Slice of Life last spring. The new restaurant offers students their favorite Italian recipes at a healthier and cheaper cost.
According to Pizza Hut’s nutrition information, a 9-inch personal pan cheese pizza contains 1100 calories. Two cheese slices from Slice of Life are still about 200 calories less than the 9-inch cheese pizza, and one slice is literally the size of my head!
A coincidence? Unfortunately, not. Add pepperoni to the equation, and Slice of Life still comes out as the healthier option. Prices are student-friendly as well. The combination of two cheese slices or a pepperoni slice with a fountain drink are both able to fit on your meal plan.
Slice of Life also provides Toppers with previous items they were accustomed to eating at Pizza Hut, such as pasta and breadsticks. Students can now purchase these items at cheaper costs, $5.89 and $2.19 respectively.
However, new additions, such as the veggie lovers pizza and chicken parmesan, have become the early favorites among students. “I really enjoy the supreme veggie lovers pizza,” said Tyler Huggins, a freshman at WLU. “The veggies blend well together, and the added spice just tops it all off.”
More inclusions are coming soon, starting with the addition of gluten free pizza. The pizza will be prepared on a separate pan with separate toppings to help avoid cross contamination.
This fall, Slice of Life will have convenient hours for students, as they are open Monday-Thursday 11 a.m – 10 p.m. and 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Friday. Although closed on Saturdays, their doors will reopen Sundays from 4-10 p.m.
