On Sept. 27, West Liberty University’s Nutting Gallery opened its newest showcase of artwork from Pittsburgh artist, Nicole Renee Ryan.
The show exhibition is called “Nicole Ryan: Memories of Memories.” Ryan is a contemporary watercolorist, oil painter and muralist from Mercer, Pa. She is currently working in Pittsburgh. This showcase included multiple watercolor and oil paintings; each piece ranging from $400 to $8,000.
Each painting was a landscape inspired by nature. According to the Nutting Gallery’s facebook, “Landscapes are her perfect metaphor. Clouds and weather become mood and personality.” Ryan paints her memories of the natural world.
My personal favorite was a framed watercolor painting named, “In Other Worlds” (2017). This painting really caught my eye with dominate purple tones with the contrasting dark green. I could really view this piece of artwork for hours. After rotating around the gallery multiple times, I found myself returning to this painting.
Those who attended the gallery opening were provided with delicious snacks and refreshments.
I encourage all students to stop by the Nutting Gallery to view Ryan’s artwork.
Do not worry if you missed the opening! The exhibition runs through Thursday, October 19. The Gallery hours are 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM weekdays.
