We all know that stress that comes around once a year when you look on the calendar and see that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Whether you’re single or in a relationship, Valentine’s Day is a headache. Being single on Valentine’s Day is difficult, because no matter where you go, you’ll be surrounded by couples and your feelings of jealousy and loneliness will creep into the back of your mind.
When the big day comes around, there are a few local places that you should avoid if you’re single.
A short drive to St. Clairsville, Ohio could take you to a couple’s destination on Valentine’s Day. Outback is a popular steakhouse throughout the year, but on this holiday, the wait will be out the door with hand holding and acts of affection. This restaurant’s prices are a little steeper but you get what you pay for, which attracts couples that are willing to splurge during a once-a-year festivity.
4. Olive Garden
A mainstream Italian restaurant with reasonable prices is always a go to for couples that want a romantic night together with a glass of wine to go with their soup, salad and pasta. Olive Garden is located at the heart of the highlands and attracts a multitude of demographics, from teenagers and college students to young adults and families. Couples will be swarming Olive Garden, so if you’re planning on braving the storm, be sure to call ahead.
The love for this local favorite runs more than some couples’ love for each other. The homey feeling when you sit down at the Alpha is one of the reasons why it’s a staple in the Wheeling community. A restaurant with a menu so big that anybody can walk out of with a full stomach and a smile on their face. This inexpensive restaurant attracts all age groups and couples that are dining on a budget, but still want a high quality meal.
2. Figaretti’s
This home-style Italian restaurant is slightly off of the beaten path of locals, but when you step inside, you’ll understand why it’s a hot spot on Valentine’s Day. Their homemade sauce will light up any date’s face when they try it, which is something you don’t want to see if you’re there alone. A reservation is much needed so that you’re not waiting for a table for two hours, so be sure to avoid Figaretti’s on Feb. 14; but, it is a must-try while in the Wheeling area.
1. Movie Theater
Whether it’s in the Ohio Valley Mall or the theater located at the highlands, avoid it at all costs. The theater will be open the day before Valentine’s Day and the day after, so why would you put yourself through the agony of seeing couples to your left and right. A lot couples will eat their meals and then drive right to the movie theater, and that’s just not the atmosphere that a single person needs to be in.
