The West Liberty Hilltoppers win their second straight game as they roll past West Virginia State 38-16.
With no scoring in the first quarter, the Hilltoppers kicked into gear with 21 second quarter points.
Ben Rogers got the scoring started as he returned a punt for a 51 yard touchdown return to make the score 7-0.
Later in the second, Hilltopper quarterback Dakota Conwell connected with Anton McCallum for two touchdowns to make the score 21-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, West Virginia State would put on a long drive, but settle for a 19 yard field goal to make the score 21-3.
However, the Hilltoppers would respond as Conwell connected with Dylan Potts for an 18 yard touchdown pass to make the score 28-3.
Dakota Conwell completed 9 of 15 passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns and one interception on the afternoon.
Conwell also ran 18 times for 117 yards. Anton McCallum finished the game with two catches for 44 yards and two touchdowns.
Dylan Potts had four catches for 71 yards and one touchdown.
West Virginia State would answer late in the third quarter as the Yellow Jackets quarterback Matt Kinnick connected with receiver Dameon Garret for a 16 yard touchdown pass to make the score 28-10.
Kinnick completed 23 of 39 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns.
In the fourth quarter, Hilltopper fullback Lucas Turley would score on a two yard touchdown run, and later kicker Shawn Carl would kick a field goal to make the score 38-10.
West Virginia State would add a late touchdown to cap the scoring, as the Hilltoppers hold on with a 38-16 victory.
West Liberty moves their record now to 2-1 on the season and 2-1 in Mountain East conference play.
Next up for the Hilltoppers is traveling to Athens, WV to take on the Concord Mountain Lions.
Concord defeated Bowie State (MD) today in a shoot-out 37-34.
