WEST LIBERTY, W. Va.— May 1, 2026
The West Liberty University Hilltoppers Baseball team hits the road tonight for a crucial late-season doubleheader against Wheeling University at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex in Wheeling. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., with a second game to follow at 7:00 p.m.

West Liberty enters the twinbill at 12-20 overall and 10-10 in Mountain East Conference play, riding a one-game winning streak after splitting last weekend’s four-game series with Point Park University at Kovalick Field. The Hilltoppers took the final game of that series 3-1 on Sunday and will look to carry that energy into what amounts to a must-win weekend against a conference
rival.
The Wheeling series carries extra weight given where both programs sit in the MEC standings, with the conference tournament just days away. The Mountain East Tournament gets underway May 6 at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston, W.Va., meaning tonight’s games and Sunday’s return doubleheader back at Kovalick Field could play a big role in determining seeding.
Home games have been a bright spot for West Liberty all season. The Hilltoppers own an 8-5 mark at Kovalick Field but have struggled away from home, going just 4-14 on the road. That is a number the team will be looking to improve starting tonight.
West Liberty also has a home matchup with Seton Hill University on Tuesday, and a weekend series against Fairmont State on April 25 and 26, still ahead before the tournament begins. With the postseason picture coming into focus, the Hilltoppers know that every game from this point matters as they look to lock up a strong tournament seed and make a deep run in Charleston.
