WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — West Liberty University’s latest Topper of the Week is men’s wrestler Anthony Wood.
Wood earned the honor after winning the Baldwin Wallace Invite on Nov. 22 — the first college tournament victory of his career. He took the 149-pound title, defeating Baldwin Wallace’s Emmanuel Scordos in the final. Wood previously placed fourth at NCAA Division II Super Regional III and at the Mountain East Conference Tournament.
“It felt good to win the tournament,” Wood said. “It was the first college tournament I’ve won and feels rewarding for how much work we do in practice.”
On being named Topper of the Week, he added, “It’s nice sometimes to get some recognition for work put in.”
Looking ahead, Wood said he’s “excited for the rest of the season” and hopes to “keep improving and have fun while wrestling.”
Wood is an environmental stewardship major and plans to become a water quality scientist after graduation.
